Chateau Baret Red Wine - Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Pessac Leognan 2017 13.50% ABV X 6 X 750ml FRANCE
A classic, well-priced expression of this celebrated Left Bank appellation. The wine has won Gold at the Lyon International Wine Competition in more recent vintages, reflecting the estate's consistent quality.
From one of Pessac-Léognan's oldest estates, right on Bordeaux's doorstep, Château Baret combines the ripe fruit of Merlot with the structure and minerality of Cabernet Sauvignon.
The nose offers black raspberry and kirsch with hints of bay leaf and tree bark, alongside notes of tobacco and gentle spice. The palate is light to medium-bodied with lightly chewy tannins and bright red berry flavours, rounded out by soft, smoky, cocoa and herbal accents that add depth through the mid-palate, before finishing with an herbal lift.
The 2017 is approachable now but has the structure to develop further with a few more years in bottle. Decant for around an hour before serving, at cool room temperature.
A versatile match for roasted meats, poultry and charcuterie, as well as mushroom dishes and soft-to-medium cheeses. Equally at home with a simple bistro-style meal.
