Château Tour de Pressac is the second wine of the historic Château de Pressac, a Saint-Émilion Grand Cru Classé, with roots stretching back to the Middle Ages. It brings together Merlot's ripe generosity with the backbone and elegance of Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
The nose opens with dark berries, black cherry and plum, layered with notes of cedar, graphite and a touch of liquorice. On the palate, ripe dark fruit is framed by well-integrated tannins and a subtle backbone of toasted oak, while a thread of fresh acidity keeps everything lifted. As it breathes, savoury, earthy tones and a hint of dried herbs add complexity, carrying through to a long, satisfying finish.
The 2017 is approachable now but has the structure to reward a few more years in the cellar. Decant for an hour or so before serving, at cool room temperature.
A natural match for roast beef, duck, lamb and other red meats, hearty slow-cooked stews, mushroom dishes or firm, mature cheeses.
